Chiropractic is considered a health care discipline, but it is not considered medicine in the traditional sense. Medicine focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of specific diseases, however chiropractic focuses on the diagnosis and care of the spine and nervous system. The chiropractic professional receives a minimum of 5 years of training that guarantees the quality and safety of the services offered. In the Chiropractic career, pharmacology or surgery is not studied, but studies of physiology, anatomy, radiology, neurology and specific manual techniques are studied in depth.
Since in many parts of the world the profession is not certified, it is VERY important to go to a "real" professional. There are people who take advantage of this legal vacuum to perform manipulations on the spine without having higher education in chiropractic.
